1) To develop alternative biological processes, based on fungi, algae and bacteria for pharmaceutical removal in hospital effluent
2) To acquire basic knowledge about the degradation mechanisms that occur in these processes
1) Continuous treatment systems based on fungi will be developed, and their removal efficiency for pharmaceutical will be evaluated.
2) The microbial populations will be characterized in the reactor throughout the continuous treatment system and the ecotoxicological impact of treated effluents will be evaluated.
3) The treatment process will be complemented by filtration and advanced oxidation pre-treatments, which will be assessed for the effectiveness of the proposed process, and the sustainability of the method used.
4) The efficacy of algae and bacteria for the treatment of urban wastewater (and, if possible, hospital wastewater) will be explored.
